Reducing Anion Nutrient Leaching Losses from a Short-Cycle Container-Grown Crop (Tagetes patula) Using Activated Aluminum

چکیده
Short-cycle horticulture crops often rely on fertigation to provide immediately available nutrients. This practice poses an environmental threat when nutrients, particularly phosphorus, leach from containers and enter waterways. One method that could be used reduce the loss of phosphorus other key anions horticultural is incorporating activated aluminum into container substrates. study investigates incorporation three rates a pine bark substrate, effects this amendment may have leachate nutrient content growth popular short-cycle crop (Tagetes patula, French marigold). The addition reduced cumulative mass in by 69–96% compared standard substrate. index subjective plant quality scores Tagetes were equivalent between aluminum-amended substrates only substrates, all cases, producing salable, crop. demonstrates effective way environment without sacrificing quality.

Reducing nitrate leaching losses from a Taupo pumice soil using a nitrification inhibitor eco-n
The decline in water quality in Lake Taupo has been attributed to nitrogen (N) leaching from surrounding land areas. Pastoral agriculture has been identified as a significant contributor to this N transfer to the lake through animal urine deposition. There is therefore an immediate need for new management options to reduce N losses. The objective of this study was to measure the effectiveness o...
متن کاملEffects of Flavonoids from French Marigold (Florets of Tagetes patula L.) on Acute Inflammation Model
The major components patuletin and patulitrin were isolated from French marigold (florets of Tagetes patula). Patuletin and patulitrin were found to inhibit acute inflammation in mice. Oral administration of patuletin and patulitrin significantly suppressed hind-paw edema induced by carrageenin and histamine, while topical application of patuletin and patulitrin significantly inhibited ear edem...
متن کاملCan a Winter-sown Catch Crop Reduce Nitrate Leaching Losses after Winter Forage Grazing?
Direct grazing of winter forage crops to feed non-lactating, pregnant dairy cows prior to calving is a common management practice in the New Zealand South Island. However, the high crop yields per hectare grazed, combined with a high stocking density of cows, means this potentially leads to large amounts of urinary nitrogen (N) deposited on bare, wet soil, that in turn, could lead to high nitra...
متن کاملA sonic net excludes birds from an airfield: implications for reducing bird strike and crop losses.
Collisions between birds and aircraft cause billions of dollars of damages annually to civil, commercial, and military aviation. Yet technology to reduce bird strike is not generally effective, especially over longer time periods. Previous information from our lab indicated that filling an area with acoustic noise, which masks important communication channels for birds, can displace European St...
متن کاملEstimating nitrate leaching under a sugarcane crop using APSIM-SWIM
The Lower Burdekin Delta (LBD) is located on the dry-tropical coastal strip in North Queensland, Australia. The region is Australia’s largest sugar producing area with approximately 38,000 hectares of land under sugarcane. However, the LBD also borders the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (GBRWHA). Thus industry, community, and federal, regulatory and environmental organisations are inter...
